Food Remedy: Ginger

Ginger is an herb. The rhizome (underground stem) is used as a spice and also as a medicine. It can be used fresh, dried and powdered, or as a juice or oil.
Ginger is also an effective preventative treatment. Taken as a daily supplement, ginger can prevent liver damage caused by certain medication, hypertension, painful period symptoms, migraines and others. The spice can be taken as a supplement or added to a preferred food or beverage with the same health benefits.

 It prevents Cold and Flu. Ginger boosts the immune system so it is used as a natural treatment for colds and flu. Ginger contains antiviral and properties that help combat such ailments.

It treats morning sickness. Pregnant women who suffer from morning sickness can use ginger to get rid of the problem. Ginger works like vitamin B6 in the treatment of morning sickness. Even when suffering from usual nausea, one can use ginger to get instant relief- Ginger may even improve some cases of constant severe dizziness and vertigo. It may also be useful for some migraine headaches.

Prevents cancer. A study by the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center showed that applying ginger powder induced cell death in ovarian cancer cells. Another study by the University of Minnesota found that ginger can also slow the growth of colorectal cancer cells and thus helps prevent colon cancer to a great extent. Ginger also has the ability to combat other types of cancer, including lung, breast, skin, prostate and pancreatic cancers.

How to consume:
Take it in the form of a vitamin pill or purchase a ginger tea. A lot of Asian cuisines have ginger integrated into a lot of their dishes or include it in your smoothie. Take a few slices and blend a long with your fruits and vegetables.
